What happens next in a claim
- 01
Document before you call
Photograph every elevation, every room, and every vehicle. Timestamped photos and video beat memory in every claim conversation.
- 02
Report the loss yourself
You — not a contractor — should open the claim with your carrier. Record the claim number, adjuster name and direct phone line.
- 03
Understand your policy
Know your wind/hail deductible, whether you carry RCV or ACV coverage, and any roof-age or cosmetic-damage endorsement.
- 04
Get independent estimates
Compare the adjuster's scope line-by-line with a licensed contractor's estimate. Ask about supplements for missed items.
- 05
Never sign what you don't understand
Avoid contingency contracts, AOB forms and 'we'll waive your deductible' offers. Waiving a deductible is insurance fraud in Texas.
